Swaged grating sun screen:
Swaged louvre screens are the most easily customisable screens on the market. These are louvred sunshades manufactured by connecting many lengths of a simple product, such as flat bar, extruded sunblade, angles or RHS sections to create a single panel. Swaged screens can have their component parts connected in one of two different ways, either with a single solid aluminium bar that is crimped or swaged to connect all of the blade elements, or with a combination of stainless steel rod and aluminium spacers. The method chosen comes down to the finish required and the location of the project, as well as any other project specific requirements. These screens can be used to form walkways, sunshades, balustrades, fences, debris screens and more.
The manufacture process of swaged louvre screens is the root of their success. A hole is drilled or punched at intervals through any form of suitable substrate, then either aluminium or stainless steel rods are passed through each hole, linking each blade element to form a single screen. Many of these screens can be installed together to create one homogeneous look on the building’s facade. Many different blade elements can be used. One of the most common is the sunblade, which is simple and effective at creating a solar control element. Other common sections include aluminium angles or flat bars, usually extruded, however folded or fabricated angles can also be used. Using stainless steel rods allows the integration of steel or other elements into the screen for additional texture and variation.
The aluminium blades of swaged screens are typically set at either 30 or 60mm centres, however this can be customised to any distance if greater sun protection is desired, or if the unit is to be used as a ventilation louvre. The aluminium or stainless steel rods are typically set at either 100 or 200mm centres, however again this can easily be customised for unique applications. As all of the fixings are concealed behind the blades, this aluminium sunshade is ideal for applications where long, clean uninterrupted lines are desired.
The robust and versatile construction of this aluminium sunshade allows it to be installed in a wide variety of ways, giving full scope to designer’s vision. This louvre can be installed as a fixed panel either horizontally to create a sunhood over a window or outdoor area, or vertically to be used as a screen over a window or plant room. If installed vertically, the blades can be set to run either vertically or horizontally, to draw the eye to other features of the building and create a sense of size and scope. The panels can also be installed into gates or doors, including bifold applications. This allows for easy access to plant equipment, while still combining airflow with an aesthetically pleasing design solution. The strength of the components involved in this product allow it to be readily used as a debris screen in cyclonic areas.
There are many different finishes available for this product, powdercoat, PVDF coated, anodised, or custom finishes. One exciting feature of this product is the ability to coat the elements separately prior to assembly, and to have a variety of colours or even different finishes within a single screen.
